An estimated 210,000 gallons a day has spilled into the Gulf of Mexico following the explosion of a BP oil rig on April 20, which killed 11 workers and critically injured three. So far, based on this estimate, more than 5.5 million gallons have now spilled into the gulf, creating a potential ecological and economic catastrophe.

New reports reveal that the spill may be worse than originally thought. Researchers have discovered enormous plumes of oil deep under water — one of which is reportedly 10 miles in length, 3 miles wide and 300 feet deep. The discovery of these plumes suggests that the spill rate may be much higher than the original estimate of 210,000 gallons per day and that the ecological results could be even more devastating than had been feared.

On May 16, BP successfully inserted a pipe into the well and began collecting some of the oil and pumping it to a ship on the surface. However, the company admits that this is a stopgap measure, and many scientists fear that despite this progress, the damage has already been done.

President Barack Obama has repeatedly stated that BP is responsible for stopping the flow of oil, cleaning up the mess and compensating the victims, including those whose livelihoods will be affected by the short- and long-term consequences of the spill, such as the fishing and tourism industries. BP has stated that it will pay all legitimate claims related to the disaster.

The Pensacola injury attorneys of Emmanuel, Sheppard & Condon are monitoring the situation and are committed to upholding the rights of those whose lives have been affected by the BP oil spill.

Ceatus Media Group has recently implemented a national campaign for Viles & Beckman, LLC to help patients who are experiencing adverse reactions to Avandia treatment. Avandia is used to treat type 2 diabetes and is prescribed to more than 6 million patients worldwide. Recent studies and news results have shown that newfound Avandia side effects extend past the already researched osteonecrosis of the jaw. The number of Avandia heart attack victims has increased forcing the FDA to consider issuing an Avandia recall to protect the general public from this defective drug. Viles and Beckman, LLC is a national firm that is dedicated to helping victims with Avandia lawsuits obtain the legal protection they deserve.
